Forever Outdoors Press Release

Pheasants Forever and the Living History Farms make ready for a new statewide event.

Kick off your fall season with an exciting day in the outdoors for the whole family

September 6th and 7th, 2008 are the dates for a first of its kind event, titled "Forever Outdoors." The Living History Farms will host the event sponsored by Pheasants Forever. Previously scheduled to take place at the new Honey Creek Resort on Lake Rathbun, the event was re-located due to weather-related construction delays. The Living History Farm, an Iowan icon located in Urbandale, provides a wonderful setting for the variety of outdoor activities on tap for this free event. Admissions, parking and all activities at Forever Outdoors will be free of charge and is expected to draw several thousand visitors and vendors to the area for the two-day event.

"We really want to focus on youth and those interested in learning more about the outdoors," says Tom Fuller, Pheasants Forever’s Regional Representative for Eastern Iowa. Forever Outdoors' goal is to provide an opportunity to experience outdoor activities first-hand. Kids can visit the Youth Village sponsored by Pizza Ranch and choose from a variety of crafts, games and activities, all related to the outdoors. Kids will have an opportunity to participate in a number of hands on activities, including: building a bird feeder, fishing rod repair, fly tying, jig making, frisbee golf and the ever-popular Laser Shot, a simulative shooting game for all ages. In addition, youth will have an opportunity to participate in a Mock pheasant hunt, where they will be able to make ethical and safety decisions on a simulated hunt.

Forever Outdoors will also host a regional Dock Dog competition sponsored by Culligan Water. "We are extremely excited about our first opportunity to work with the folks from Dock Dogs. Dock Dogs will bring professional and amateur trainers from all over the country to compete and assist in their events." says John Linquist, Regional Pheasants Forever Representative from western Iowa. "This will be a huge draw for dog lovers to stop and see which breed will be crowned champion." This action-packed event is sure to be a crowd favorite.

Dogs will continue to take the center stage at the Bird Dog Brigade sponsored by Native Performance Dog Food. The pro-staff from Native will provide dog training seminars and be on hand to offer training advice that you can take home for the canine in your family. "PF members across the country are big time dog supporters and we want to share that desire by making sure your time in the outdoors is the best that it can be." says Dave Van Waus Regional Biologist Central Iowa.

Other attractions will include the Iowa Pheasants Forever art competition sponsored by Iowa Telecom. This yearly event brings out the most talented outdoor artist in the state to showcase their original masterpieces. Habitat tours sponsored by Weekend Warrior will allow conservationist and landowners to learn first-hand, how to implement critical habitat management practices. A variety of equipment will be on hand, suitable for the smallest or biggest habitat project. Finally, vendors, representing outdoor-related businesses from seed sales to dog supplies and gun manufacturers, will be available to sell products and services and answer questions.
